What was the client looking for?

Caterpillar wanted a partner to help them get their internal decoration up to scratch.  Existing steelwork and walls, covered in dirt, fumes and oil deposits, needed washing down and then painting to bring them up to the same high standard as the factory’s new roof cladding.

How did we help?

As the factory is in operation around the clock we had to be really flexible – carrying out painting during lulls in production. This allowed power to be isolated at certain times, creating a safe area for our painters to work in without disrupting production for Caterpillar. What’s more, we used the BSI colour code system to identify the content of pipes throughout the plant and utilised mobile elevation work platforms (MEWPS) to access most areas, as they are quicker to use and offer greater flexibility than fixed tube scaffold – exactly what our client needed. And because finished trucks were on the production line at the same time as painting, we made sure they were fully protected during works (with Visqueen sheeting, if you’re interested in the technicalities).

The result?

Caterpillar got a brighter, cleaner working environment. And MITIE? A Painting & Decorating award-winning contract once we’d finished.
