Operating smarter
What we do is simply to apply common sense thinking.
We are committed to applying the most efficient practices in the way we manage our contracts.
This means ensuring that our people feel empowered to make a difference and apply sustainable solutions in everything we do.
Whether cleaning a building using sustainable materials and equipment, delivering maintenance schedules and ensuring operating systems are running efficiently with low energy power and heating solutions or, designing ground breaking low carbon energy centres, sustainability is as at the very core.
We realise that a sustainable process doesn’t begin when we walk into a client’s building but much earlier with our supply chain in the questions that we ask and the standards we expect when we source our materials and select our partners.
The partnership we enjoy with our suppliers means we are able to thoroughly examine the supply chain process and the sustainable practices they adopt on our behalf.
As part of our sustainability audit we consider:
- the availability of raw materials,
- the treatment of employees,
- the effects of climate change and the opportunities for mitigation in manufacturing and supply,
- the logistics process including type and frequency of transportation as well as storage and ultimately re-use and re-processing.
We work in partnership with our suppliers through workshops, forums and interactive communications to ensure that our clients are working with sustainable organsiations throughout their supply chain.
What is our objective?
To make sure all our people and as many of the suppliers we work with as possible, understand the commercial impact of operating as efficiently as possible so that we can maximise value for all stakeholders.
How will we achieve this?
- By raising awareness of fuel consumption across the organisation via a dedicated communications campaign and help achieve a 10% fleet fuel reduction by 2013;
- Increasing management awareness of and participation in sustainable practices via e-learning programmes and interactive workshops;
- Auditing 40 major suppliers a year requiring 100% to meet or exceed our sustainability audit targets within 12 months;
- Investigating risks from climate change and identifying hot spots in carbon emissions in the supply chain.
