What was Sony looking for?
Sony’s Pencoed Technology Centre is a 27,000m2 manufacturing plant. The core business at the site is the manufacture and distribution of broadcast and professional cameras, camera systems, sub manufacturing and a repair facility.
How did we help?
MITIE was selected as principle contractor to design, install, operate and maintain an advanced, tailored BMS controls solution that would deliver significant energy savings and reductions in emissions and energy costs.
The new system provides accurate control, carefully matched to user requirements, of a wide range of energy plant including boilers, heating, heat distribution pumps, hot and cold water, air handling, chillers, extract fans, internal and external lighting, fire alarms and gas supply controls. It is driven by a Trend BMS System utilising sixty IQ2 and IQ3 series controllers, linked by TCP/IP and Trend LAN technologies programmed to meet the environmental comfort conditions, and relevant health and safety needs of the areas in the facility.
The system is interfaced to Sony’s corporate network which gives remote access and monitoring via a number of IQ View touch displays — easy to use graphical interfaces for quick system performance analysis.
The results…
- A 50% reduction in air handling running costs alone - equivalent to savings of over £100,000 per year;
- Greatly improved temperature control within critical process areas reducing range variations from more than 4°C to less than 2°C;
- Forecasted site energy saving of £1million over the next three years;
- Reduced electricity use and emissions;
- Significantly improved building environmental conditions;
- Better control of lighting, heating, air handling and cooling;
- Improved monitoring and control
